INSTRUCTIONS TO INSTALL AND USE WEBCAM AND SKYPE FOR REGENTSÕ CHINESE ACADEMY

Set-up the WB-7140 Webcam


1.     Open the Webcam packaging and remove the webcam and the CD-Rom.

2.     Place the webcam on top of the monitor with the help of the webcam foot-clamps (or a convenient setting at eye level).

3.     Plug the WebcamÕs cable to the USB port.

4.     The computer will automatically recognize the Webcam.

(If it is not recognized automatically, please see MANUALLY INSTALL WEBCAM SOFTWARE at the end of this document)

 

Install SKYPE

1.     Go to http://www.skype.com

2.     Click on Picture 4.png

3.     Run the Skype Setup application

a.     A window will open asking what you want to do with a file called SkypeSetup.exe. Click ÔSave FileÕ

b.     It will take a few minutes to download Skype on your computer.

4.     Click on the downloaded file (Skypesetup.exe file) to open it.

5.     In the ÔHelloÕ menu, select English as your default language

6.     Then click ÔI agree – InstallÕ

7.     After the ÔThank you for installing SkypeÕ page – click Start Skype

8.     Click NEXT until you get to the page where you can Create an Account.

9.     Type in your name, then create a Skype username (called a Skype Name) and a password.

a.     Pick ones you can remember so you can sign in next time.

10.  Follow the directions from there and click SIGN IN.

11.  This will take you to the WELCOME screen – Click on ÔCheck your sound worksÕ


Testing Audio And Video

You will see an audio/video test screen.

1.     Test your speaker/headset first. Click PRESS ME.

a.     You should hear some sounds.

b.     Else check to see if your speaker/headset is 1) connected 2) NOT muted (or turned down/low)

2.     Next check for the microphone.

a.     Select the correct microphone in the currently using section (See blue arrow in the image below)

b.     If you are using microphone from the Webcam select ÔUSB 2.0 2MO UVC AF CameraÕ else select your ÔHeadsetÕ)

c.     When it is correctly set-up, the green bar should move when you speak.

 

 

 


3.     Next, Test the video.

a.     Sit at eye level of the webcam.

b.     Click TEST WEBCAM

c.     You should see your image on the screen and see a SUCCESS arrow.

d.     You can exit the Guide. (This will take you the Skype call window)


Using SKYPE

There are 2 basic steps to be able to talk with someone on Skype - adding a contact (person) to your list and calling a person (from the list)

Add a contact  - to be able to speak or videoconference with the contact.

1.     Click on CONTACTS

2.     Then click NEW CONTACT

3.     Once you find the person, click ADD CONTACT. This person will be added to your list.

Calling a person

1.     Click on the personÕs Skype name.

2.     You will see another menu on the right side that has call options.

3.     Click on VIDEO CALL if you want to the person to see and hear you.

(Your camera needs to be enabled – see above on ÔTesting videoÕ)

 

MANUALLY INSTALL WEBCAM SOFTWARE

Computers automatically recognize most webcams. If your computer does not recognize your webcam, please follow these directions:

1.     Insert the CD-ROM that comes with your webcam.

2.     A window will pop-up.

3.     Click Install Device Driver.

You will see a window that looks like this.

Click NEXT until the software/driver is installed on your computer. When you get a FINISH option, click it and restart the computer. Your webcam is ready for use.
